In school, it can be hard to enjoy books that are "mandatory reading", but looking back at those books through our older, wiser eyes can also bring a new appreciation for the classics. Now that you don't have to worry about getting that A+ on your book report, come discuss The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, here at your library.

Thrown in prison for a crime he has not committed, Edmond Dantes learns of a great hoard of treasure hidden on the Isle of Monte Cristo. He becomes determined not only to escape, but also to unearth the treasure and use it to plot the destruction of the three men responsible for his incarceration.

Dumas’ epic tale of suffering and retribution, inspired by a real-life case of wrongful imprisonment, was a huge popular success when it was first serialized in the 1840s, and has endured as a classic work of literature.
