Brief Description of Event
The SWFL Feminist Reading Group is a new space for community members to explore and discuss feminist literature together, focusing on the relevance of this literature for our lives today. We meet each month at the Fort Myers Regional Library in the River District. People of all ages, genders, and backgrounds are welcome to participate. Participants are encouraged but not required to do the selected reading for that meeting in advance.
For our August meeting, we'll be discussing two short writings by a couple of important leaders from the early twentieth-century women's movement: Emma Goldman's essay, "The Traffic in Women" (1917), and Crystal Eastman's speech, "Now We Can Begin" (1919). Both writings are just a few pages, and both can be easily found on-line as they are now in the public domain.
Our August meeting will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 26th. We meet in the South Building of the Fort Myers Regional Library (next to the library parking lot). Light refreshments will be provided.
