Join financial educator Brett Burkey for an informative session on property insurance.

Florida’s property insurance rates have almost doubled in the last five years and they are nearly triple the national average. Yet, insurers have been losing money and 15 of them have claimed insolvency since 2020. Hurricane risk might seem like the obvious problem, insured losses from Hurricane Ian have been estimated to be between $30-$50 billion alone. But several other man-made drivers contribute greatly to this collapse. We will discuss the problems plaguing the insurance industry in Florida and the increasing challenges they create for the residents seeking to hold on to their piece of paradise.

This program is provided in partnership with the Florida Council on Economic Education, a 501(c)3 organization aimed at educating others on economic and financial topics. For more information, visit fcee.org
