Event Details

Join us for a captivating presentation with philosopher and author Lindsey Stewart as she discusses her groundbreaking new work, The Conjuring of America: Mojos, Mermaids, Medicine, and 400 Years of Black Women’s Magic. Stewart brings to light the rich, untold tradition of Black women’s conjure practices—rooted in West African spirituality, herbal healing, and magic—that have quietly shaped American culture, from midwives and “Negro Mammies” in slavery through the Jim Crow era, to modern-day influences such as blue jeans, Vicks VapoRub and mermaid mythology.

This event is a profound invitation to explore history, feminism, spirituality and culture through a new lens of power, resilience, and legacy. Register Today!
