Program Description

Event Details

Gary Vidito portrays his father, Jewel Marcus Vidito, who was aboard the USS Susan B Anthony during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France. The ship struck two mines as she approached Omaha Beach and sank within minutes. All 2,800 men aboard were rescued, making it the largest sea rescue of all time, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. The story became the topic of an episode of the History Channel’s “Deep Sea Detectives.”

In his program, Vidito (dressed in WWII Navy uniform) talks about the causes and results of the war and sings the songs of the era playing his father’s guitar.
