Program Description

Event Details

Einstein’s theory of Relativity, the New Age movement, and Freud’s study of the psyche in Totem and Taboo combined to jump-start the 20th Century “Arts Revolution.”  We will see examples of experimental, Freudian-inspired works by Max Ernst, Magritte, Tristan Tzara, Paul Klee, Juan Miro, and other pioneers of Surrealism, Cubism, Futurism, Dada, Fourrage, and Fumage.  Adaptations in photography and cinematography were furthered by Man Ray:  “I would photograph an idea rather an object, a dream rather than an idea,”  Salvatore Dali saw New Age Art as “spontaneous association of obsessions and objectification of delirium.”
