The program will trace the region’s story back to 500 BC, beginning with the Calusa civilization and the establishment of their capital at Mound Key. Attendees will also learn about the Spanish invasion that brought an end to the Calusa reign, as well as the pirates who once roamed Florida’s Gulf Coast.
